The ol’ wine bottle-dime-pen-shoe trick

Monday, May 1st, 2006

This weekend I found myself on a beach with a few bottles of wine and no corkscrew. To open a wine bottle without that particular tool you’ll need a coin about the size of a dime (in europe it’s a penny), a pen and a hard soled shoe.

  1. Tear off the foil/plastic covering the neck of the win bottle and place the coin atop the cork. It should sit just below the lip of the bottle.
  2. Now just place the pen end-down on top of the coin and bash the tip with your shoe until the cork drops into the bottle. Be prepared for a little wine to spurt out of the bottle when this happens.

Enjoy!
